What is FTTx?

As customers demand wider bandwidth, telecommunications companies must seek to deliver network convergence and consumer media device revolution. Therefore, the appearance of FTTx technology is significant for people around the world. FTTx is a collective phrase for any broadband network architecture using fiber to provide all or part of the local loop used for the first / last mile. With different network destinations, FTTx can be classified into phrase such as FTTH, FTTN, FTTC, FTTB, FTTP and so on.

Fiber to the Home (FTTH) is the fiber-optic signal transmission from operator switching equipment to a home or workplace, thereby fiber optic is replaced with existing copper infrastructure such as coaxial cables & telephone cables. Fiber to the home is a relatively new and rapidly growing way that provides much higher bandwidth to consumers and businesses, thereby enables stronger video, internet and voice services.

Connecting homes directly to a fiber optic cable will dramatically improve the bandwidth that can be delivered to consumers. Current optical fiber technology can provide two-way transmission speeds up to 2 Mbps. This two-way transfer rate for companies / institutions / public and private centers / businesses etc. can be increased to 1G even further. In addition, as DSL and cable modem providers are striving to deliver higher bandwidth using their technologies, improvements in fiber optic equipment continuously improve the available bandwidth without the need for fiber modification. That’s why fiber networks are said to be “proof of the future.”
